Wendouree Shiraz Mataro 1999
Made by Wendouree in Australia (region: Clare Valley)
A dry, still, red wine with 13.2% alcohol tasted on 1st Jul 2007.
Grape: Shiraz Mataro
Quality: Very Good
Cost: Usually between $40.00 - $99.00.
Looks: Quite black colour with slight ruddy edge - still not really orange or brown at all - medium looking body
Smells: Full spiciness, red berry fruit, cloves, pepper...a wafter, not a power player
Feels: Full but tight
Tastes: My first entry on the site for Wendouree - which is almost a travesty I have taken so long! The fruit is tight and closed, taking a while to open up, but it is mainly red berries and cherries. It is not a ripe sugary fruit as with most Aussie wine - it is drying, lip smacking. The spice and finish are complex and powerful - this is a wine with a lot to say, and a wine with years in front of it.
