Gramp's Five Generations Cabernet Merlot 2001
Made by Orlando in Australia.
A dry, still, red wine with 14% alcohol tasted on 5th Nov 2004.
Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot
Quality: Good
Value: Above Average
Cost: Usually between $15.00 - $19.00.
Looks: Heavy looking, deep ruby red.
Smells: Tight, but with lovely vanilla and dark berry fruit.
Feels: Pretty darn heavy.
Tastes: Some red berry followed by deep blackcurrant fruit and real "grapey" finish. Nicely lined with wood and acid, and nice grainy tannin. Good, full and long on the finish, this wine just keeps on keeping on. Proof that the big companies can produce quality in bulk.
Possible retailers: Vintage Cellars, Theo's, BWS, Woolworths Liquor, Dan Murphy's, First Estate.
