Meerea Park The Aunt's Shiraz 2005
Made by Meerea Park in Australia (region: Hunter Valley)
.
A dry, still, red wine with 13.5% alchohol tasted on 12th Mar 2008.
Grape: Shiraz
Quality: Very Good
Value: Above Average
Cost: Usually between $24.99 - $26.99.
Looks: Quite dark red and black in the centre, with a full bodied look to it
Smells: A real ripe choc scent going on - fairly powerful
Feels: Full bodied
Tastes: This is Hunter Shiraz on steriods. The style is getting fuller, riper and more choclately - I am not sure this is where it should be heading as a Hunter Shira purist, but I cannot deny hoe enjoyable this is to drink. Red berry and black pepper with the requisite Hunter earth, albeit slightly overwhelmed by some vanillan choc oak falvours which dominate the finish. A lot of the descriptors I used above you would expect of Barossa shiraz - but this is Hunter. Forget about all that and buy and drink this - it still is a cracking wine.
Possible retailers: Vintage Cellars, Cellar Door, Dan Murphy's, First Estate.
