Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier 2006
Made by Clonakilla in Australia (region: Canberra)
.
A dry, still, red wine with 14% alchohol tasted on 20th Mar 2008.
Grape: Shiraz Viognier
Quality: Very Good
Value: Ouch!
Cost: Usually between $69.99 - $95.99.
Looks: Lovely glowing red colour - not too deep or black, and medium bodied
Smells: Persistant violet and red berry
Feels: Medium bodied
Tastes: It is the word that should be banned from describing wine because it is used too often and has come to mean not a lot - smooth. Yet here I am using it to describe this wine. The mouthfeel is beautiful and silky - not an edge in sight. Red berry and hint of violet all over the palate. Perhaps not as long as it could be. I really enjoyed this wine - however for a wine that has a building reputation as one of Australia's best, it does not stand up to that sort of reputation to me. However, many disagree, so there you have it. Please don't take this review as me panning this wine - it is gorgeous.
