The Grapes Of Ross Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
Made by The Grapes Of Ross in Australia (region: Barossa Valley)
.
A dry, still, red wine with 14.9% alchohol tasted on 1st Apr 2008.
Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot
Quality: Good
Value: Above Average
Cost: Usually between $18.00 - $20.00.
Looks: Purple black, with a full body
Smells: Blackcurrant and cassis
Feels: Full bodied
Tastes: This wine confounded me. I poured a glass, and "wham" came the intense blackcurrant and cassis flavours that scream Cabernet, with acids to the fore and fruit playing a searing rather than a plush role. Then blow me down when I read the label and it is actually Merlot dominant. Would never have picked that! At first this wine attacked a little too much - it really has a bite about it. But, after a while, I really came to appreciate it. Massive length, gripping power almost over the top. Almost.
