The Grapes Of Ross Old Bush Vine Grenache 2006
Made by The Grapes Of Ross in Australia (region: Barossa Valley)
.
A dry, still, red wine with 15.8% alchohol tasted on 3rd Apr 2008.
Grape: Grenache
Quality: Good
Value: Above Average
Cost: Usually between $18.00 - $20.00.
Looks: Ruddy maroon colour, fairly deep - but not black - and full bodied
Smells: Earthen, almost dry dirt with red cherry
Feels: Full bodied
Tastes: Acids and earth are to the fore here - somewhat surprisingly I have to say since you come to expect a hit of ripe raspberry cherry fruit in Grenache. Not here - fruit is the background with complex chinese spices, earth and black pepper tones giving this wine its mid palate. Acids are made for meat. Length is fair, tannins are grippy. My only gripe is that since the mouthfeel and acids make this less 'plush' in the mouth, some of the alcohol sticks out in the wine a little - not outright heat, but prickle. A really nice effort to move grenache away from fruit bomb and into other more savoury territory.
Possible retailers: Squashedgrape.
