Marsh Estate Private Bin Semillon 2001
Made by Marsh Estate in Australia (region: Hunter Valley)
.
A dry, still, white wine with 12% alchohol tasted on 6th Apr 2008.
Grape: Semillon
Quality: Good
Value: A Little Excessive
Cost: Usually between $26.99 - $28.99.
Looks: Although it has a few years, it is still quite clear and only just turning a golden colour - and I swear I see flashes of green in there. Oh, and it looks light too.
Smells: Fresh grass left in the sun - honest!
Feels: Light
Tastes: I love it when you come across things like Semillon held back a few years to release. And this one probably needed to be - it would have been a green astringent youngster methinks, It is still quite green tasting, but it sort of makes the wine even more charming. Length is fair, and there is a certain amount of sour apple going on as well. Not what experts would look for in an aged Semillon - but I really quite enjoyed it.
Possible retailers: Cellar Door.
