Lake's Folly Cabernets 2004
Made by Lake's Folly in Australia (region: Hunter Valley)
.
A dry, still, red wine with 12% alcohol tasted on 15th Jun 2008.
Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Shiraz Petit Verdot
Quality: Outstanding
Value: A Little Excessive
Cost: Usually between $59.99 - $79.99.
Looks: Nice dark red colour, not opaque at all. Medium bodied.
Smells: Nice line of black berry fruit, with some smoke and earth.
Feels: Medium bodied.
Tastes: Lake's Folly is not heard of as often as it was in the past. It was known as a quality producer, royalty in a way due to its owner Max Lake. He has long since passed the company onto others, and it has seemed to ease back into the background. It really should not on the basis of this wine. What a ripper. Solid core of blackcurrant juice with earth and spice tones, and some blueberry to boot. Gritty tannins make for interest, and a long lean length. This is elengant and refined winemaking - yet with a real rustic core to it. I like it. I like it a lot.
