Petaluma Coonawarra 2001
Made by Petaluma in Australia (region: Coonawarra)
.
A dry, still, red wine with 14% alcohol tasted on 12th Jul 2008.
Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot
Quality: Outstanding
Value: A Little Excessive
Cost: Usually between $65.00 - $100.00.
Looks: Nice deep black colour with only a tinge of rust at the edge, and medium in body
Smells: Deep black fruit and lovely earthy spice mix
Feels: Medium bodied
Tastes: What a stunner. This wine was full of power and grace and magnificent staying power, whilst still complementing food without overpowering it. Black fruit at core, good dry and wet earth tones, line of spicey oak in the background playing a supporting role and a hint of green acid through the centre giving it structure and purpose, not detracting. Brilliant.
Possible retailers: Vintage Cellars, Cellar Door / Web Site, Dan Murphy's, Kemeny's, Winestar, 1st Choice.
