Rockford Alicante Bouchet 2004
Made by Rockford in Australia (region: Barossa Valley)
.
A dry, still, rosé wine with 9% alcohol tasted on 11th Jan 2005.
Grape: Alicante Bouchet
Quality: Good
Value: Okay
Cost: Usually between $23.99 - $28.99.
Looks: Dark, deep crimson colour. Deep and heavy looking for a 'pink' wine!
Smells: Light raspberry, with a slight sour, dry edge to it.
Feels: Light to the touch, but still with a bit of depth. (just to contradict myself!)
Tastes: Light, slightly bitter raspberry flavour with a decent length of flavour and fairly smooth.
This wine has a real cult following - I was at the cellar door once on the day it was due to be released. In the half an hour I was there, ten locals from the Barossa had dropped in to check whether it was available. As it had been delayed, they left straight away - without even thinking about the massive red wines on offer from Rockford!!
Possible retailers: Cellar Door / Web Site, Ultimo Wine Centre.
