Best's Great Western Thomson Family Shiraz 2004
Made by Best's Great Western in Australia.
A dry, still, red wine with 14.5% alcohol tasted on 6th May 2009.
Grape: Shiraz
Quality: Very Good
Value: Ouch!
Cost: Usually between $120.00 - $140.00.
Looks: Black, dark coloured wine that is fairly deep. Full bodied.
Smells: Dark fruit, hint of coffee and some freshness.
Feels: Full bodied
Tastes: Hard to fault this wine. Good bursting fruit that is not exactly ripe, but is full of flavour and fresh acidity. Good spice tones and some earth on the finish and nice grippy tannin. But, the finish is perhaps not as long as it could be, and the wine maybe could be a little more interesting. Harsh maybe, but in the company this elder statesman keeps it needs to be peerless.
Possible retailers: Vintage Cellars, Dan Murphy's, Ultimo Wine Centre, Kemeny's, Winestar.
