Kalleske Johann Georg Old Vine Shiraz 2007
Made by Kalleske in Australia (region: Barossa Valley)
.
A dry, still, red wine with 15% alcohol tasted on 2nd Jul 2009.
Grape: Shiraz
Quality: Outstanding
Value: Ouch!
Cost: Usually between $100.00 - $100.00.
Looks: Very dark, black colour and a real heavy look to it
Smells: Dark, brooding fruit with a hint of spice and some heat
Feels: Heavy
Tastes: Wow. You think when you drink wine at 15% alcohol or more you are in for an ordeal. Not here. The heat is in the finish as a subtle warmth, covered in layers of great ripe dark fruit and choc/coffee. The spice and the chewiness are what gets you in this wine - not the normal jelly mouthfeel of big ripe wine, but a real chew. Length is intense and drying. Great wine, and I would love to see what it is like in twelve years.
Possible retailers: Cellar Door / Web Site, Dan Murphy's, 1st Choice.
