Woodlands 'Margaret' 2006
Made by Woodlands Wines in Australia (region: Margaret River)
.
A dry, still, red wine with 13% alcohol tasted on 17th Jul 2009.
Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Malbec
Quality: Good
Value: Ouch!
Cost: Usually between $55.00 - $75.00.
Looks: Dark glossy black colour, with a medium to full body
Smells: Some plummy fruit and some minty tones
Feels: Medium to full bodied
Tastes: I want to be very careful rating this wine, but it has me a little confused. It could well be sitting in a resting place right now, as Cabernet wines often do. The fruit is there, but very mono-toned and sucked back into some solid tannins and meaty tones. A bonus point is the spice - some nice complex spices meshing with the meaty middle palate. Length is fairly short. I honestly don't know how this wine will progress from here, but in the here and now it was pleasant but not great.
