Ivanhoe Cabernet Sauvignon Limited Release 2005
Made by Ivanhoe Wines in Australia (region: Hunter Valley)
.
A dry, still, red wine with 13.5% alcohol tasted on 25th Jul 2009.
Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon
Quality: Very Good
Value: Okay
Cost: Usually between $36.00 - $36.00.
Looks: Dark in colour, but still not totally opaque. Medium bodied
Smells: Blackcurrant, earth
Feels: Medium bodied
Tastes: I noticed something strange in my latest visit to the Hunter. Cabernet wines at the cellar doors were really standing out to me. The combination of the dry earth and leather tones of hunter soils with the blackcurrant and lean lines of cabernet when done well can really work - it is just perhaps that shiraz has dominated Hunter for so long. This wine ticks all of the above and has a lovely line of acid. Length is not its strength, but the flavour and tannins are very strong. Was this a run of decent vintages for Hunter Cab? Will it continue? Let's make sure we find out...
Possible retailers: Cellar Door / Web Site.
