Peterson House Merlot Cabernet Shiraz 2007
Made by Peterson HOuse in Australia.
A dry, sparkling, red wine with 13.5% alcohol tasted on 6th Aug 2009.
Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Shiraz
Quality: Good
Value: A Little Excessive
Cost: Usually between $29.99 - $29.99.
Looks: Crimson with medium sized bead. Good mousse on pouring.
Smells: Red cherries and a lifted raspberry lolly smell
Feels: Light medium body with some solid bead
Tastes: Peterson House picks up a lot of tourist trade in the Hunter, preparing them with some morning bubbles for the long road of Semillon and Shiraz ahead. Their wines for my money are a little hit and miss - they can surprise you with something profound and interesting and then can produce something full of sugar and not much else. This is something in between - not too sweet for their style, and with a little 'Cabernet spine' that gives some interesting notes. It is still mainly raspberry lolly flavoured, but the finish has some tannin and a black fruit note that saves it. Not bad.
