Katnook Estate Odyssey Cabernet Sauvignon 2004
Made by Katnook Estate in Australia (region: Coonawarra)
.
A dry, still, red wine with 14% alcohol tasted on 17th Oct 2009.
Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon
Quality: Very Good
Value: Ouch!
Cost: Usually between $79.99 - $99.99.
Looks: Black purple, medium to full bodied, but not entirely opaque
Smells: Black olive, black berry and perhaps a hint of mint
Feels: Medium to full bodied
Tastes: The mouthfeel, tannins and structure of this wine speak of class. Still lean, but somehow spreading through the mouth a little more than many Coonawarra cabernets. But the flavour tones are perhaps a little simple for a wine of this pedigree. Red and black berry tones and a core of blackcurrant throught he middle and finish, sandy tannins to chew on and flashes of mint and smoke. Having said that the overall impression is not quite complex enough - not enough to think about really.
Possible retailers: Vintage Cellars, Dan Murphy's, Kemeny's, 1st Choice, Auction.
