Kalleske Florentine Chenin Blanc 2009
Made by Kalleske in Australia (region: Barossa Valley)
.
A dry, still, white wine with 12.5% alcohol tasted on 3rd Nov 2009.
Grape: Chenin Blanc
Quality: Okay
Value: Okay
Cost: Usually between $18.00 - $18.00.
Looks: Quite oily in appearance, with a very light golden colour.
Smells: Peachy on the nose - very light on
Feels: Medium bodied, but with that oily texture
Tastes: As I have done before on this site, it is only fair at this point to state that I have yet to really make friends with Chenin Blanc as a variety. At its worst it tastes like cheap unwooded Chardonnay - at its best, slightly more expensive unwooded chardonnay. However, on this wine in particular I have to say this is well made. Riper and rounder even that some Chenin, it still retains a nice lick of acid to fill it out. Taste is of the peachy chardy spectrum again, but a little spice creeps in, courtesy of some barrel maturation perhaps. Still not something I would choose, but I am getting closer to finding a friend in Chenin...
