Mount Mary Pinot Noir 2006
Made by Mount Mary in Australia (region: Yarra Valley)
.
A dry, still, red wine with 13.3% alcohol tasted on 31st Dec 2009.
Grape: Pinot Noir
Quality: Outstanding
Value: Ouch!
Cost: Usually between $110.00 - $140.00.
Looks: Light looking body, with a light crimson tinge
Smells: Roses, musk, red currants
Feels: Light
Tastes: Wow. Wine of the year, and so late on! All my descriptors so far have implied a light wine - this is true, but there is slightly more weight than the usual Mount MAry Pinot, and a little more fruit on entry as well. This is no bad thing - all the incredible subtle complexity still resides thereafter - strawberry, red currant and raspberry fruit tones, with a lovely boney line of acidity and very nice rounded tannins that are soft and silkly, then a long long length of subtle power and grace all in one. Brilliant.
