Yalumba Wild Ferment Chardonnay 2008
Made by Yalumba in Australia (region: Eden Valley)
.
A dry, still, white wine with 13.5% alcohol tasted on 15th Jan 2010.
Grape: Chardonnay
Quality: Okay
Value: Okay
Cost: Usually between $14.99 - $18.99.
Looks: Medium bodied with a pale gold colour
Smells: Slighty cheddar cheesey, with some mushroomy tones
Feels: Medium bodied
Tastes: I can see what they are trying to achieve with this wine. It is a real French style chardonnay< although perhaps not exactly the steely nature of Chablis - the cheesey tone is definitely an oak influence. But the acidity that tries to bind it together is a little green and asparagusy for me, and the length a little short. Still excellent drinking for the money, and you gotta give it to them to try for this style in this price range.
