Mad Fish Gold Turtle Tempranillo 2008
Made by Mad Fish in Australia (region: Great Southern)
.
A dry, still, red wine with 14% alcohol tasted on 28th Sep 2010.
Grape: Tempranillo
Quality: Very Good
Value: Okay
Cost: Usually between $30.00 - $30.00.
Looks: Brick colour at the edge, and proceeding to a not quite black red in the centre. Full bodied looking
Smells: Blackberry and licorice on the nose
Feels: Full bodied
Tastes: As more and more Tempranillo starts to appear in Australia, it is interesting to compare the styles. Since the Spanish are not really known for their consistency with a style for the grape, it is no surprise that we have not really struck on either. Anyways, first things first - I would probably not have picked this as Tempranillo if tasting blind, but it is a cracking wine nonetheless. Black berry and licorice tones with a hint of all spice on the finish, and some good firm tannins make this a serious but fleshy wine. Nice long length.
